In 2007, Richard Smethers was entrusted with the creation of a rubber division within Tonkin Trading Ltd. With over 40 years experience of the Natural Rubber trade and excellent worldwide consumer and producer contacts, his task was to marry these strengths with those of the Tonkin organisation in Vietnam. On the consumer side he has been greatly assisted by a cadre of loyal and hard-working sales agents. Their continued support has enabled him to concentrate on developing supply sources.
Whilst there is a slight emphasis on Vietnamese rubber and latex, this has largely been determined by our customer demands. Notwithstanding we promote rubber from all origins and are supplying according to customers’ price, technical and logistical requirements.
The last 10 years have been very exciting for us all in the Rubber Department and we have been able to meet the enormous challenges of a fast-moving, dynamic rubber market and a perilous economic world order. By so doing we have been able to insulate -or at least- cushion our customers from some of the worst effects arising from all these uncertainties.
